Orthopedic Surgeon

NASS Member Since 2011

What originally drew you to the field of spine care?

I was drawn to the field of orthopaedic surgery because of the ability to, so quickly, improve the mobility and quality of life of patients with musculoskeletal ailments. Early on in my training, I was exposed to the field of spine surgery. I was enamored by the complexity of the spine and how our surgeries can profoundly help a patient. A good day at work for me is making a positive difference in my patients’ lives.

What initially inspired you to become involved with NASS, and what has kept you

engaged over the years?

As an orthopaedic surgery resident and spine fellow, I became involved with NASS. It was a great opportunity to start networking and be part of a multidisciplinary team that seeks to use evidence based medicine to treat patients with spinal pathologies, both operative and nonoperatively. As an attending spine surgeon, I frequently referred patients to the patient education section of NASS. I have since became a member of the Resident & Fellow Education Committee and participate in the annual NASS meetings.

Looking back on your own experience, what advice would you give to members seeking

a more active role in NASS?

NASS has been an important facet of my career. I would recommend getting involved early and applying to be a member of a committee that excites you. This gives you the opportunity to network with other members and participate in the annual meeting.
