What accomplishment are you most proud of, and why?

Being instrumental to setting up the Nigerian Spine Society is an accomplishment I am immensely proud of. It didn’t come with much accolade, but educational opportunities opened up and the result has been a giant leap in Spine Surgery quality and quantity in Nigeria.

What initially inspired you to become involved with NASS, and what has kept you engaged over the years?

I got inspired to become involved in NASS on realizing that NASS has its door open to create an opportunity for Surgeons outside the United States to benefit from its various educational activities. Starting with webinars and recorded lectures, I later benefited from the rich learning opportunities at the Annual Conference. I have also attended a few hands-on training workshops, specifically the Spine Injection and MISS courses. I have also had the privilege to serve on the section on Spinal Cord Injury and the Working Group on Residents and Fellows. I also took the on-line training on Evidence based Medicine.

If you could go back and give your younger self one piece of career advice, what would it be?

Allocate time to research, set a target for publications and make sure that clinical work translates into clinical research.
