What initially inspired you to become involved with NASS, and what has kept you engaged over the years?
My initial inspiration for becoming involved with NASS early in my career was for the opportunity to connect with professionals who shared a passion for advancing our field while learning from their knowledge and experiences. I wanted to contribute to an organization that supports education, collaboration, and the development of future leaders.
What has kept me engaged over the years is the sense of community and the meaningful relationships I've built through NASS. I've had the privilege of working alongside dedicated colleagues, participating in initiatives that make a real impact, and continuously growing both professionally and personally. Being able to give back, mentor others, and help shape the future of the organization has made my involvement incredibly rewarding.
What is a lesson you learned early in your career that you still carry with you today?
One of the most valuable lessons I learned early in my career is that relationships matter just as much as technical knowledge. Skills and expertise are essential, but listening, communicating effectively, and treating people with respect builds trust and creates lasting professional partnerships. I learned that every interaction is an opportunity to learn from others and to make a positive impact.
That lesson has stayed with me throughout my career. Whether collaborating with colleagues, mentoring others, or working through challenges, I strive to approach every situation with integrity, humility, and a willingness to listen and learn from. Strong relationships and a collaborative mindset have been the foundation of both my professional growth and the contributions I've been able to make.
Looking back on your own experience, what advice would you give to members seeking a more active role in NASS?
My advice is simple: say yes. Volunteer for a committee, attend meetings, ask questions, and don't be afraid to step outside your comfort zone. Some of the most rewarding experiences I've had with NASS came from opportunities I initially wasn't sure I was ready for.
NASS offers countless ways to get involved, and every contribution—big or small—makes a difference. Becoming active not only allows you to give back to the organization, but it also helps you build meaningful relationships, develop leadership skills, and gain perspectives you wouldn't find anywhere else. The connections I've made through NASS have enriched both my professional and personal life, and I encourage members to take advantage of every opportunity to participate.
