What initially inspired you to become involved with NASS, and what has kept you engaged over the years?
I joined NASS as a spine fellow when the organization had few members. It was much more low key and interpersonal than AAOS. My fellowship director became President of NASS which furthered my involvement with NASS. I always had an interest in advocacy at the college level, at the state level, and at the AMA. NASS provided many opportunities for doing greater advocacy work for spine care specifically.
What accomplishment are you most proud of, and why?
Being able to teach, do research, and innovate new products while still maintaining a full-time private practice.
If you could go back and give your younger self one piece of career advice, what would it be?
Don’t volunteer too much.
