What originally drew you to the field of spine care?
Issues with my own spine and interest in scoliosis.
What initially inspired you to become involved with NASS, and what has kept you engaged over the years?
I am a founding member, was the first secretary treasurer of NASS, and named NASS.
What is your favorite memory from a NASS Annual Meeting or other event?
Amalgamation meeting in Laguna Nigel in 1985
What accomplishment are you most proud of, and why?
Formation of NASS and the impact NASS has had the past 40 years on improving spine care.
What skills do you believe are most important for today's spine professionals to develop?
Take the time to listen to the patient and do a thorough hands on examination before looking at imaging studies.
Tell us about one of your mentors and the best piece of advice they gave you.
I had several excellent mentors: J. Leonard Goldner, Donald McCollum, Frank Stelling. Ralph Coonrad, Howard Steel, Edwardo Luque, Robert Winter and Harry Crock.
Looking back on your own experience, what advice would you give to members seeking a more active role in NASS?
Volunteer and give your time and talent.
