I was initially drawn to NASS because of its uniquely multidisciplinary membership and the exceptional educational experience at the Annual Meeting. Over time, what has kept me engaged is the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues across specialties, contribute through committee service and leadership, and help shape the future of spine care while mentoring the next generation of surgeons.

Don't wait to be invited—take the initiative. Some of the most rewarding opportunities I've had in NASS began with a simple conversation at the Annual Meeting. Introduce yourself, express your interests, and volunteer. NASS has countless ways to get involved, from committee service and research to education and guideline development, and the organization truly values members who are willing to contribute. You may be surprised how quickly one conversation can lead to a long and rewarding journey within the Society.

One lesson I've carried with me throughout my career is that asking for help is never a sign of weakness. The most complex spine cases are rarely accomplished alone—they require humility, collaboration, and trust in your team. The best surgeons know when to seek another perspective, because great patient care is always a team effort.
